The Look of Spring: The Flower Fields is Open

Mar 27th 2013

The Flower Fields’ breathtaking colors, overlooking the ocean, are the unofficial symbol that spring has arrived in Carlsbad. Nearly 50 acres of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers make up the vibrant hillside, attracting visitors from near and far.

The first steps towards the now famous fields began over 85 years ago with Luther Gage’s floral cultivation. What began as an unofficial tourist attraction, the fields generated more and more attention over the years and in 1993, the decision was made to open the fields to the public and The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch was born.

With over 125,000 visitors every spring, The Flower Fields have become one of Carlsbad’s most popular spring attractions. Visitors can enjoy the scent and picturesque views March 1st to May 12th, 7-days-a-week. The Flower Fields also features wagon rides, a Sweet Pea Maze, Santa’s Playground, the American Flag of Flowers, an Artist Garden and more. You can also take home some of the beauty as the fresh cut flowers, bulbs and potted plants are available for purchase onsite at the Armstrong Garden Center this year. The Flower Fields will host an array of events such as Kids Day, Jazz Day, Photography Workshops, and the Bonsai Show and Sale. For a full schedule of events, and more information visit www.theflowerfields.com.

Now is the perfect time to tour the fields, and breathe in the scent of spring. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity and be sure to bring your camera!
